In Loving Memory of Paul

Paul our beloved husband father and grandfather left us at the age of 74 as a result of Parkinson.
Paul was born in Neos Marmaras Chalkidiki. He was the man of vision who rediscovered the abandoned village of Parthenonas and opened the Famous Tavern Parthenonas in 1978. This was the beginning of giving life to long gone village and the renaissance of the area.
His life will soon be published in a tribute to him and will be presented to his many friends this coming summer of 2014.

August 15, or Dekapentavgoustos in Greece

images

It is true that Greeks are closely tied to the celebration of The Virgin on the 15th of August every year. It is the most important single day holiday in Greece because it is the day that honors the holliest of all, The Virgin “Panagia” which in greek means just that the “holliest”

Every location in Greece has a Virgin it celebrates and in some places such as the islands of Paros and Tinos as well as the mountain of Vermion in northern Greece, this celebration becomes the focal attraction for thousands of visitors from all over the world. In those places the holiday is  three days involving a holy procession of the Virgin, special prayers and culminates to a local traditional foods offering in the central town squares for all guests, followed by local dances. This event is a unique cultural event in Greece that brings all Greeks and visitors closer together and back to the rich roots of the Greek culture.

Celebration “Panigiri” in the village of Parthenonas

On July 27th we celebrate in Parthenonas the Patron of the village Saint Pandeleimona. It is the most important event of the year for residents, guests and visitors. Here you can find the detailed schedule of activities for this wonderful three day weekend (25,26,27)
“Panigiri” is the ancient Greek word used to describe a major festivity whether religious, commercial or other purposes. An event described by this word is unique to the location, and a major annual event. In old traditional villages the celebration includes special events featuring a variety of local culinary experiences, songs and dances most of which date back to past centuries.
This celebration in Parthenonas is unique in that it highlights the natural and architectural beuty of this village and its vibrant lifestyle.
